ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

Northwest Montana Youth Hockey Association is a non-profit community youth hockey organization dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for players of ages 5-19 and all abilities across the Flathead Valley. We offer opportunities for all youth to participate in the sport of hockey while delivering high-quality instruction rooted in USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM). Through a focus on foundational skill development, teamwork, and positive experiences, we strive to foster a lifelong love of the game while instilling the values of character, hard work, sportsmanship, and respect—both on and off the ice.

LOCATION & AFFILIATION

NMYHA conducts its hockey programs at the Stumptown Ice Den Arena in Whitefish, Montana and Woodland Ice Center in Kalispell, MT. All youth hockey players and teams are registered with NMYHA and USA Hockey. NMYHA members benefit from affiliation agreements with the Montana Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA), East Kootenay League (EKL), and USA Hockey. NMYHA follows USA Hockey’s policies (see Bylaws section of the USA Hockey Annual Guide), including the American Development Model (ADM), which provides hockey associations with a proven plan for age-appropriate athlete development.

NMYHA develops, promotes and administers its youth hockey programs for players residing in the greater Flathead Valley area, including Whitefish, Kalispell, Columbia Falls, and additional outlying areas, on behalf of teams, players, coaches, referees, parents and administrators consistent with the bylaws, policies, and procedures of MAHA and USA Hockey.

HISTORY

Youth hockey in the Flathead Valley has been built through the dedication of players, families, coaches, volunteers, and community leaders for decades.

The Flathead Valley Hockey Association (FVHA) and Glacier Hockey Association (GHA) each played an important role in growing the game in the Flathead Valley. GHA was established in 1991 and FVHA was established in 2007, both with the goal of developing youth hockey. Together, the organizations provided opportunities for thousands of young athletes to learn, compete, and develop a lifelong love of hockey.

In 2026, recognizing the opportunity to better serve players and families through a unified approach, the two organizations came together to form the Northwest Montana Youth Hockey Association (NMYHA).

Today, NMYHA proudly carries forward the legacy of both associations under one banner: the Northwest Snow Ghosts. While the name is new, the commitment remains the same—to provide outstanding hockey experiences, develop players of all ages and abilities, and build a strong future for hockey in Northwest Montana.

Honoring the Past. Building the Future.
